To protect its citizens against the possibility of an increase in COVID cases, the Canadian government has released new rules for entry into the country, whether by air or land.
All individuals over 5 years old will have to take the COVID-19 test before departure in their country of origin (taken up to 72 hours before their scheduled flight) and on arrival in Canada. Another important requirement is the mandatory hotel reservation, before arrival, for 3 nights in authorized hotels.
Travelers will have to stay in these hotels during 3 days until the exam results and must present proof of having reserved and pre-paid for their accommodation through ArriveCAN. Prices may vary depending on the reservation, reaching CAD 2,000.
The hotel reservation can only be made through GB Travel Canada Inc and only by phone. You are prohibited from booking accommodation directly from the hotel.
Phones for scheduling:
● 1-800-294-8253: for North American residents
● 1-613-830-2992: residents of other countries
If you arrive in the country by land, you will need proof of the negative COVID-19 test 72h before your arrival, in addition to the test when entering the country.
The list of hotels is available at https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection/latest-travel-health-advice/mandatory-hotel-stay-air-travellers/list-government-authorized-hotels-booking.html.
Ontario hotels are:
● Alt Hotel Pearson Airport
● Fairfield Inn and Suites Toronto Airport
● Four Points by Sheraton Toronto Airport
● Holiday Inn Toronto International Airport
● Sheraton Gateway Hotel in Toronto International Airport
● Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel and Conference Centre
Travellers are exempt from the 3-night hotel stay if they are an unaccompanied minor or unaccompanied dependent child; and travellers already exempt from the requirement to undergo post-arrival testing. The complete list of exempt persons can be found at the following link: https://bit.ly/3uq2ET3
